Christmas deliveries

This is probably a good opportunity for a reminder about my suggested Christmas delivery dates for 2011.

The very best way to ensure that your festive seasons purchases arrive on time (and that the items you want are in stock) is to order as early as you can. However, below are my suggested cut off dates for Christmas deliveries:

  • 13 December for deliveries outside of Australia
  • 18 December for standard post deliveries within Australia
  • 21-22 December for Express Post deliveries within Australia*

Note that these dates do not guarantee your order will arrive in time, but it is likely to. If you order later than these dates your delivery may still arrive in time, but it’s less likely to.

* 22 December if your delivery address is within the ‘guaranteed next business day delivery network’ from postcode 5241 – learn more. If you are not in the guaranteed area, Express Post items still arrive the next day more often than not, but it’s best to allow an extra day to be sure.

Be a festive season earlybird!

Handmade sterling silver chain by Simone Walsh. It seems unbelievable to me too, but Christmas is almost upon us once again!

New handmade jewellery on sale

I’m about to start work on designing a new range of handmade jewellery. Hooray!

And to make space for the new work I’ve just added some more jewellery designs to the sale section of my shop with substantially discounted prices.

You can find these items and more in each of my shops:

Deals of Christmas: weeks five and six

I’m running extremely late with this week’s deals in the lead up to Christmas – it’s been that sort of week!

So I’m combining weeks five and six into one, giving you four in one go. The deals include some of the most popular items I make, so they are indeed very special.

These Christmas deals will end on Monday 20 December, so be quick!

Japanese etched pendant – leaves and flowers

Japanese etched pendant with leaves and flowers on red silk. This beautiful sterling silver pendant is one the most popular designs I create.

It has a Japanese leaves and flowers design etched into the surface. The recessed areas of the etch have been blackened, while the exposed silver has been given a slightly muted but still shiny finish.

The pendant is suspended on luscious deep red natural silk thread which is finished with handmade sterling silver clasp findings.

Three blossom earrings

Blossom earrings in sterling silver.Always one of my most popular designs, these simple, fun and eye-catching blossom earrings are handmade in sterling silver.

The little blossoms are each cut out by hand from silver sheet, so each one will be slightly different. They have been left with a brushed but bright and shiny finish.

Three blossoms per earring are suspended from handmade ear wires on delicate hammer-beaten pins.

Handmade sterling silver chain

Blossom earrings in sterling silver. This simple, striking and contemporary chain necklace made entirely by hand – which is why it is so special!

Most chains are now made in factories by machines, whereas handmade chains are very labour-intensive, with each individual link having been worked on carefully by the maker and left with its own character.

Each loop of silver is shaped from wire, cut, linked to other loops and then all of them are soldered closed. Finally each link is lovingly hammered to give it a beautiful hammer-beaten finish which catches the light. The whole chain is then tumbled for a number of hours to give it a bright and sparkly finish.

The chain can be worn in different ways and the simple handmade catch can clasp the chain at any point.

This is my own personal favourite piece of jewellery to wear!

Circles cufflinks

Blossom earrings in sterling silver. These contemporary and fun cufflinks are made entirely in sterling silver.

The silver which has been etched with a great ’60s-style circles pattern – sure to add life to a dull suit!

The recessed areas of the pattern have been blackened, while the surface of the pendant has a brushed but still shiny finish. The cufflinks have been tumbled to give the blackened areas a bright shine.

The cufflink backs are a swivel design in sterling silver.

The twelve deals of Christmas – week one!

Each week in the lead up to Christmas I’m going to be offering a special deal on two pieces of handmade jewellery in my range – so twelve pieces in total.

Each piece will be discounted from its usual price, but for just one week only! This will include some of my most popular pieces.

I will post the deals of the week right here on my blog every Monday until Christmas. You can also bookmark the ‘special deals’ pages in my Australian shop and international shop and check back weekly.

So to kick off the very first week I’m offering special deals on the following pieces:

Butterfly wing pendant on chain with gold and gemstones

This is the deluxe version of my butterfly wing pendant – one of my most popular designs for the last few years.

The wing has been intricately cut out in sterling silver and is suspended from a delicate sterling silver chain.

Hanging next to the pendant is a small ring of 14ct gold with two faceted ametrine and one amethyst gemstone beads, all of which are suspended from 14ct gold pins.

Leaf and bud earrings

These earrings were inspired by a beautiful leaf I photographed at the lovely Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens not too far from my home.

Each leaf is cut out by hand in sterling silver which has been hammer beaten to give it an organic texture and shape. The pendant has a satin finish.

Suspended from a sterling silver headpin in front of each leave is a lovely hand cut pear-shaped faceted garnet which has a deep wine colour.

The leaves are finished with curvy handmade hook ear wires in sterling silver.

Earlybird discount!

Running an indie business at Christmas can be a very frantic thing – especially as the day itself looms large and people remember (finally!) to go shopping!

Earlybird holiday discount – get in quick!

Mock orange blossom brooch - sterling silver.Even I think it’s still a tad early to start shopping for the festive season! However, as someone running a micro business I can tell you that having everyone go shopping in the last few weeks tends to result in a Christmas day where I’m so exhausted I just want to fall over!

Not that I’m complaining of course, but I thought I’d offer people a temptation to get shopping in earnest a bit earlier this year.

I’m offering a 15% discount across my entire range of jewellery for purchases made before 28 November. Just enter the code earlybird09 when you checkout to receive your discount.

Feel free to pass it on to friends and family – especially if you’ve got your eye on something for yourself, of course!

Also make sure you check out my new range of handmade jewellery. I’ve added a few more pieces in the last couple of days.

Note that this discount is valid in both my international handmade jewelry shop and my Australian and New Zealand handmade jewellery shop. It is not valid in other outlets.

On sale!

Photograph of Japanese etch pendant on red silk - chrysanthemums.Just a note to let you know that I’ve just added a number of pieces to the sale section of my handmade jewellery shop to help clear the way for new work.

Some of these pieces have never been sold online before and for many there is just one remaining in stock.

So stop by the sale section and take a peek! I hope to be adding more in the next little while.

New website design (and a launch discount!)

After proving to myself that I am my own worst design client, I have finally completed a much-needed redesign of my main website at www.simonewalsh.com.

Handmade jewellery website screenshot.

This has also been rolled out to both of my shops – the international jewelry shop and Australian jewellery shop.

The previous design of my site and shops was done in a great hurry after I lost confidence in the primary online selling venue I had been using to that point and decided I needed my own independent shop to best look after my business.

In the space of about three days I had the site design mocked up, built, tested and rolled out. This was an impressive turnaround time, but I had always meant to go back and rebuild it with a design I was happier with. And finally it’s done!

If you encounter any problems in using the new design please let me know.

Next to do is a redesign of this very blog – another project that’s been on the cards for a long time! I hope to get to that in the next few months with any luck.

A launch discount

To celebrate the launch of the redesign you can take advantage of a 15% discount using the code redesign when you checkout (valid to 19 August 2009).

This discount code is valid in both my handmade jewelry shop (prices in US$, shipping everywhere) and my handmade jewellery shop (prices in AU$, shipping to Australia and NZ).
